May Prayer Partner Devotional

Prayer Never Ends

By Beth Wassink

As we enter the last weeks of May, mentors and students are working on ending the school year well. They will reflect on fun times, the growth that was made, and challenges overcome. Year-end parties will be thrown, and everyone will be saying “see you later, alligator!” When it seems like a good time to end all things “Kids Hope USA” for the school year, there is one thing that needs to remain constant – prayer. As Prayer Partners, your job is never done.

pray without ceasing

1 Thessalonians 5:17

You may be asking yourself, “how will I know what to pray for when I am not receiving an update from my student’s mentor each week?”

I recently took a class at church where we talked about prayer. We talked about how there is not really any “right way” to pray, no “right time” to pray, no “right words” to say when we pray. We can say the same thing over and over or we can just have an endless conversation.

We just need to pray.

Keep talking to God—presenting our needs and giving thanks for His goodness. You can do the same for your student. Keep talking to God, asking for His blessing upon them – that they remain safe, healthy, and happy throughout the summer months. And if you feel like you have run out of things to pray about, open your heart to the Holy Spirit.

26 Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but that very Spirit intercedes with sighs too deep for words. 27 And God, who searches the heart, knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.

Romans 8:26, 27

Dear Lord, as the school year comes to an end, we ask your blessing over our Kids Hope USA students. Free them from any sadness they may feel as they say goodbye to their faithful mentor friend. Surround them with your love as they transition into summer break. Keep them safe in the palm of your hand. Amen.
