July Prayer Partner Devotional

By Zoe Lamb, Kids Hope USA director in Hawaii

Studies have shown that volunteering is great for the mind and body. Serving also increases our faith, allows us to experience God’s presence in a new way, and allows us to discover and develop our spiritual gifts.

Tapping into our gifts and passions often builds self-confidence, energy, and strength—yet we make excuses to not serve.

“I do not have time…”
“I do not know what to do…”
“They do not need me…”
“I am not qualified to…”

But the reality is that God does not call the equipped. He equips the called.

God has used many people with similar doubts and feelings to make an impact. Moses didn’t think he was a leader or speaker, but God worked through Moses to bring Israel out of slavery. David was the youngest (and therefore most insignificant) of all his brothers, but God worked through David to defeat a giant and eventually made him a king. Mary was a young virgin and became the mother of Jesus. Paul used to persecute Christians before he met Jesus, but he went on to become one of the most highly regarded and prolific writers and church planters in history.

God wants to work in us and through us. Let’s let Him!

As Prayer Partners, please pray for your new mentors who are stepping up to serve, as well as for the existing mentors as they prepare for the next school year. Pray that they will be empowered by the Holy Spirit. Pray that the Holy Spirit will speak to you, Prayer Partners, and give you specific people to ask to be a mentor.

Mahalo Ke Akua –  Thanks be to God

Thank you, Lord for those you are calling to be a mentor. Thank you for our current mentors. We pray that you will continue to speak to these individuals whom you have called. We ask that you give them rest over the summer break so that they will be refreshed come the fall. Also give them new and exciting ideas as they prepare for the next school year. Thank you, Lord for the gifts you have given to each and every one of them. I thank you that they get to use their gifts to glorify you. Do what only you can do, Lord. We love you Jesus.
Amen
