In the coming years, it will be interesting to look back on 2020 and reflect on what stands out in our memories, both good and bad. It feels like almost nothing with our Kids Hope USA program has been ‘normal’ this year. We’ve had monumental changes at our partner school including a new principal, assistant principal, counselor, social worker, and a host of new teachers. Because of these changes, and COVID-19, we haven’t been able to mentor yet, but we still wanted to support the school. So, instead of meeting with our kids, we offered support in new and different ways this past fall. With inspiration from some of the teachers, we provided school supplies to all the students to better equip them for at-home learning and filled a closet with supplies for the teachers too. While we’re missing the in-person mentoring with our students, we’re choosing to support our kids through daily prayer.
We are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things He planned for us long ago.
Ephesians 2:10
We are missing the time with our students and honestly, we’re a little frustrated. But as Paul says in Ephesians, “…so we can do the good things He planned for long ago.” COVID-19 isn’t a surprise to our God. He’s right here in the middle of it with us and with each KHUSA child and mentor. God alone knows how all this will play out in the future. So, with Jesus at the helm, we will march forward through the murky waters and unsettling times. We know God is grateful for the time we spend with these precious children and we will constantly seek His guidance and wisdom for what lies ahead.
All glory to God, who is able, through His mighty power and work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think.
Ephesians 3:20
Gracious Lord, As I sit and chat with you about our KHUSA kids, their mentors, their teachers and schools, I humbly ask that you fill their hearts with encouragement and love. Walk with them through these challenging school days. Be with their parents who are struggling to meet their needs and be “at home teachers.” Cover them with your comfort and joy as we enter this holiday season and new year. Thank you for being with us as we venture into 2021.
In Jesus name,
Amen
