Trusting God

By Marie P., Kids Hope USA Prayer Partner

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding.  In all your ways acknowledge him and he shall direct your path. “

Proverbs 3:5,6

Sometimes a situation may seem too much for us to handle.  Why? Because we depend on and trust in our own ability to understand.  Years ago, I followed through on a calling to serve at an adult homeless shelter. I was going to teach the clients about nutrition, pray with them, and share a meal.  As I entered the shelter on the first night, I became paralyzed with fear, wondering how in the world I would ever be able to do this task.

I soon realized I was talking myself out of this calling.  I looked at the surroundings and jumped to the wrong conclusions. I was trusting my own understanding over God’s call. I had to call out to God to help me if I was to accomplish what He called me to do. I needed to trust in His guidance and His direction.  He filled me with peace and gave me the courage to move forward. The evening at the homeless shelter was a success, but could have been different had I continued to lean on myself and not God.

Prayer partners, please pray that mentors rely on God and not their own understanding of the students they mentor. God knows what is best and how to accomplish what is best for each student. Pray they will trust Him and allow Him to bless their mentoring sessions in ways beyond their understanding.

Dear Lord, help mentors to turn to You and respond to Your leading as they connect with the students they are matched with. Fill them with Your peace and help them to let go of their own understanding and trust you to guide them, encourage them, fill them and use them in a mighty way.   Amen
